The Home Video Release Extends The First Animes Finale
It’s fairly usual for anime series Blu-Ray and DVD releases to have extra features that weren’t available during the televised broadcasts. This may include uncensored violence, cleaned-up animation, or other finishing touches that weren’t possible due to a lack of time.
Danganronpa: The Animation’s release adds 14 minutes to the anime’s final chapter, allowing the nuance of the mystery to be fully appreciated. Spike Chunsoft was worried that the whole plot wouldn’t fit into 13 episodes, and this extended director’s cut of the finale demonstrates how challenging that task was.
Danganronpa: Who Created Monokuma & 9 Other Questions About The Anime Answered
Its easy to dismiss Danganronpa as just another video game anime, but theres a lot more going on here that’s easy to question.
There are plenty of anime that skew towards the stranger sensibilities of the animated medium, but Danganronpa is an extremely bizarre property. The anime follows a bunch of students whose lives are on the line and theyre pushed to go to dark places in order to secure their survival. Danganronpa: The Animation is one of the better examples of an anime thats based on a video game and it truly helps the property evolve.
RELATED: Danganronpa: 10 Differences Between The Anime & The Video Game
At its core, Danganronpa weaves a disturbing and unusual mystery, but it also functions as a brilliant psychological character study that demands several viewings. Its easy to dismiss Danganronpa as just another video game anime, but theres a lot more going on here.
The Second Anime Is Designed To Wrap Up The Video Games
Video games and anime may have a rather symbiotic relationship, and in the case of Danganronpa, Studio Lerche and Spike Chunsoft had direct contact.
Surprisingly, the Danganronpa developers tried to finish their initial Hope’s Peak Academy plot, but they decided that the serious path they wanted to take the story wouldn’t be suitable for a video game. They agreed that an anime would give them the creative freedom they needed to take the characters and story anywhere they wanted without the constraints of a video game.
There are two Danganronpa anime series that cover a wide range of topics, but there is also an additional plot piece that is available in a special way. The animated special Super Danganronpa 2.5: Nagito Komaeda and the Destroyer of the World is included in the limited edition PlayStation 4 release of Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. It’s a touching story about a boy who has withdrawn into an artificial calm environment as a coping mechanism, set before the events of the Danganronpa 3 anime’s Hope Arc. It’s not essential, but it gives the Danganronpa 3 anime’s final episode more scope.

Prologue – Welcome to Dangan Island! Panic at the Heart-Throbbing School Trip!?
Monokuma hacked the Neo World to enter and start a new Killing game. Monokuma first appears after Usami lets the students go swimming. He keeps a low profile while Hajime Hinata introduces himself to the others, and only appears when Hajime decides to relax and joins the others. He hijacks the camera systems and tells all the students to gather at Jabberwock Park. When they do, he suddenly pops up from the Jabberwock Statue and states his name and the fact that he is the School Headmaster.
Gen then announced being the headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy and the killing School trip that was about to begin. Monokuma started to fight Usami who wasn’t willing to protect the students, however, to the end she lost to Monokuma and broke her magic wand. Once again, Monokuma started to fight Usami to change her to a more satisfying look, this turned out to be Monomi and Monokuma started to claim that he’s his older brother. Because Monomi was being annoying to Monokuma he started to punch and hit Monomi due to his annoyance. He then called out the Monobeasts to execute her. After this, the Killing School Trip official began.
Chapter 1 – Destination Despair
Monokuma, unlike the first game, doesn’t need to prepare the motive as one of the students plans out the murder and another student commits a murder.
Chapter 2 – Sea and Punishment, Sin and Coconuts
Chapter 3 – Trapped by the Ocean Scent
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

Monokuma returns in Danganronpa V3 as the main antagonist. This time, he is accompanied by his “children” the Monokubs, led by;Monotaro and appears in Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles where he forces sixteen students into the Killing School Semester. He is also the only returning character from previous installments.Unlike in previous installments, Monokuma acts independently of being directly controlled by the mastermind. In this case, Tsumugi Shirogane can still remain as part of the group while Monokuma orchestrates the events of the game.
Creation
Monokuma was created by the organization that created and featured Killing Games for the outside world’s entertainment, Team Danganronpa as the mascot of the series and the host of the Killing Games featured in the TV show. Monokuma has appeared ever since the first entries of the series as part of the Killing Games’ host, most notably the killing game at Hope’s Peak Academy, the Killing School Life and the Killing Game at Jabberwock Island, the Killing School Trip. Since Monokuma is the mascot of the series, he is the face of the entire TV show. Ever since Monokuma’s debut, Team Danganronpa decided to give him more potential as a character for the show, creating the Monokubs as his Children.

The Opening And End Credits Pay Tribute To The Video Games
The individual Danganronpa anime are love letters to Spike Chunsoft’s games, but the anime’s love for the source material is particularly evident in some of the opening and closing numbers. Danganronpa: The Animation’s first opening contains an instrumental combination of the video game’s main theme, but then expands on it. One episode has a special “Monokuma Song” opening that refers to the Bullet Time Battle mechanic in video games. Finally, the end credits for Danganronpa’s final episode: The Animation purports to be a remake of Trigger Happy Havoc’s climax, which is a fitting conclusion to the anime.

Nagito Komaeda / The Servant
- Voiced by : Megumi Ogata
- Nagito is a deliberate foil to the previous protagonist, Makoto. Like Makoto, Nagito is an optimistic, subservient student who was accepted to the academy by raffle and received the title of Ultimate Lucky Student . Unlike Makoto, his title is more literal, as he experiences an extraordinary cycle of good and bad luck that ultimately works to his benefit when good or causes some sort of harm to him when bad. Initially thought to be a friendly, upbeat, somewhat meek young man, he is shown to be quite deranged in his pursuit of hope, believing it to be an absolute good that only his talented classmates can achieve. Because of his beliefs, he is completely willing to let his talented classmates walk over him, for he sees himself as inferior to them, all while keeping his cheerful, optimistic attitude and frequently referring to himself as a “stepping stone for hope.” He is the sixth and final murder victim, orchestrating an elaborate death trap to trick the Future Foundation traitor into throwing a canister of poison at him and becoming his killer.

The protagonist of the second game, an amnesiac boy with a deep admiration for Hope’s Peak Academy. Over the course of the Killing School Trip, he discovers that he is in fact a member of Hope’s Peak’s Reserve Course Department and has no ultimate talent. Driven by his desire for talent, Hajime agreed to take part in the Izuru Kamukura project and was surgically implanted with every talent known to man, lobotomizing him in the process. Reborn as Izuru Kamukura, he brought Alter Ego Junko into the Neo World Program in order to pit hope against despair and see who would triumph. Coming to terms with his past with the aid of Makoto Naegi, Hajime rallies the remaining students to defeat Alter Ego Junko and becomes one of the survivors who manages to escape to the real world. He returns in Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School, where he has retained Izuru’s talent and Hajime’s personality. After reviving the students who were killed in the Neo World Program during the Killing School Trip, he leads them in battle to stop the unhinged Mitarai from using his hope video on humanity. Afterwards, the 77th Class scapegoats themselves for the Final Killing Game in order to protect the Future Foundation’s reputation and exiles themselves to the real Jabberwock Island along with a repentant Mitarai.
The Second Anime Aired As Two Overlapping Arcs
When it comes to storytelling, Danganronpa is extremely ambitious, but Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School is probably the best example. The anime is divided into two distinct arcs, each of which aired on separate days. The Future Side is a prequel to all of Danganronpa and explores the Remnants of Despair, while the Despair Side is a sequel to Danganronpa 2 and heads into another killing game. Both of these plots converge in the Hope Side, a final episode that elegantly ties it together.

The Second Anime Was Going To Be An Adaptation Of Danganronpa 2
Originally, the second Danganronpa anime was supposed to be a direct adaptation of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The plot of the game will then be continued in a separate visual novel. However, this raised a number of concerns, including the fact that the events of Danganronpa 2 were much too complicated to be adapted into an anime, as well as the staff’s aversion to subjecting the survivors of the disaster to yet another massacre. Instead, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School ends the tale and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony picks up where Danganronpa 3 left off.

Danganronpa: The Animation Adapts The First Video Game

After falling in love with Spike Chunsoft’s Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, a small team at Studio Lerche decided to create Danganronpa: The Animation. The game’s events will be carefully adapted into 13 episodes, according to Lerche’s plan. Lerche does a fantastic job here, and while the anime isn’t perfect, it covers all of the important aspects of the game, maintains the creepy feel, and even goes into detail about some character elements. Lerche’s experience with video game adaptations served them well in this case, but the other Danganronpa anime take a different approach.
