Watch The Anime: It Adds Extra Material

Not everybody loves material that doesnt come straight from the manga, and filler episodes have been pretty well vilified by just about everyone who has ever watched anime. But here’s the thing: Black Clovers filler episodes are actually pretty fun.

These new stories gave viewers more time with the characters and allow everyone to get to know and understand the world even better, since it means seeing different things going on around the characters besides the things happening in the main plot.

Read The Manga: Get Ahead Of The Anime

In terms of the story, Black Clover is further along in the narrative in the manga than in the anime. This is definitely the case for most anime that are based on manga, since the manga has to exist first in order for the anime to have something to adapt.

Some people are definitely more than content to wait for the next episode of the anime to find out whats going to happen in the story, but others would rather get as much of the story as is currently available. These types of people would definitely want to pick up the manga.

Asta & Yuno’s Rivalry Felt Dull At Times But The Joint Battles Are Everything

The structure of Asta and Yuno’s rivalry isn’t exactly show-stopping, and while it falls flat in many ways, their joint battles are undoubtedly some of the best parts of their dynamic.

The power of Asta and Yuno’s rivalry was portrayed at its finest when they teamed up to take down the actual reincarnation of Licht and not phony Patolli Licht, in order to save the Clover Kingdom from total destruction. As Asta and Yuno worked together to land a seemingly finishing blow on Licht, Rhya watched in dismay, pointing out how perfectly in-sync their techniques were with one another.

Black Clover Was Considered Predictable At Times But There Are Also Plenty Of Surprises

Some argue that Black Clover is too predictable, claiming that the series doesn’t offer much in terms of surprises. On the contrary, the story has plenty of unexpected surprises throughout, and one particular moment which shocked fans was the scene where Licht seemingly killed the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono.

As Licht launches a powerful and almost fatal Light Magic attack on the entire Clover Kingdom, Julius manages to stop it before everyone is crushed, but at the cost of letting his guard down and being stabbed. As fans made peace with the lovable Wizard King’s demise, a shocking revelation showed that Julius had in fact survived by coming back to life using mana he had stored in the Swallowtail, a magic item that is compatible with his Time Magic.

Yes, Black Clover will release its final episode on the 30th of March. One thing Black Clover fans loved about the show is its consistency in delivering episodes on time, unlike other popular animes. Creating high-quality anime takes a huge amount of time and effort so seasons are always delayed or one season is released after 2 or 3 years . Black Clover has stood out by delivering episodes on time without affecting the quality of animation. It’s a commendable achievement.

In the past few months, the anime has sped up the storyline, coming close to the manga’s ongoing story. Once the anime finishes the manga’s ongoing story, it usually runs out of source material for newer content. So the decision to stop Black Clover anime in the middle of an ongoing arc is a good one. It will give the manga a good time to catch up on the story as well as give the animators working on the anime some well-deserved rest. While the fans might not be happy, they can always turn to the ongoing manga to brush up on the story.

TOP 15 Anime like Black Clover to WATCH!

Another important factor for some people when jumping into an anime series is if its self-contained, or if its diluted itself with other material like movies and OVA specials that also need to be consumed. Black Clovers anime has been careful in this area and hasnt indulged here, despite an OVA that launched before the anime came out and some ONA material.

However, there is a gag manga, Asta’s Journey to Wizard King, that’s produced, as well as Black Clover: Quartet Knights, which is a manga adaptation of Black Clover’s video games. Neither are essential to understand the anime’s story.

Does It Get Better

This all brings me to the big question, and the reason for this post: Does it get better? Is there anything salvageable about this series, does Yoshihara pull it off, are the fans right?! The answer to that is a clear and firm yes, but it comes with a few caveats. Sure it gets better, but does it get good? Is it worth sitting through all 150+ episodes to get caught up with it and see where it goes? Where do you even begin? Well thats what this last section, and I promise its the last, is here to answer.

I would say that yes, Black Clover does get good. I would never have been able to sit through 151 episodes to write this post if it hadnt. AuthorYki Tabata clearly has a plan in place for Black Clover. The narrative makes that clear, and given where we are now Im engaged, Im enjoying it. The man even went through the trouble of writing additional story content for the anime that wasnt present in the manga. All to flesh out ideas he either didnt have time to put in the manga, or he felt were incomplete without it. In a way, the anime has anime-only canon content for the story, and thats sort of incredible. Its a far cry from the generic and shouty Shonen it was in the first few episodes.

The Time One Would Have To Invest

Lastly, lets talk about the time investment required for an anime and for a manga. To be blunt, its almost always shorter to read something than to watch it, but that difference in time differs from show to show. For example, in Death Note, there are so many words on each page that it almost takes as long to read a chapter as it would to watch an episode .

But, Black Clover is a shonen manga, meaning it primarily focuses on action, and has a lot of episodes. Therefore, one chapter of a fight between the Wizard King and Licht that takes 10 minutes max to read translates to an episode and a half, which is about 3x the amount of time. For those who dont have the excess time to invest in a 150+ episode anime, try reading the manga instead, it really will save a lot of time. Or, at the very least, pick a series that’s a bit more binge-able.

The Visual Language & Flow

Some mangaka have such a mastery of their craft that they can portray a complex fight easily on paper using visual language. In particular, Narutos Masashi Kishimoto and My Hero Academias Kohei Hoshikori are very adept at using visual language to their advantage, especially during fights.

But, Yuki Tabata, the mangaka for Black Clover, deserves more credit too, as a lot of the compositions for the battles in the manga are straight-up beautiful and easy to understand. The anime does a pretty decent job of matching this during big fights, but for the moment-to-moment quality, the visual flow of the manga is much better than the anime.

Gurren Lagann Blends Mecha Archetypes With Fantasy Staples

Black Clover T.V. Media Review Episode 19

Every anime that TRIGGER puts out is a visual masterpiece and deserves to be seen for the spectacle alone, but their anime are often quite nuanced and challenging series. Gurren Lagann is a unique twist on the mecha genre, where humanity has been forced to live underground until an attack from above prompts two brave, young souls to fight against an unknown enemy.

Gurren Lagann is deeply entertaining and unpredictable, but its especially impressive to see mechs used in a different way and have an energy that leans towards magic rather than bullets or weaponry.

Watch The Anime: The Running Gags Are Fun

As mentioned above, the anime is also pretty funny, though its funny in a different way when compared to the manga. Because its animated, theres a little more wiggle room for running gags visual jokes can be reused and remind viewers of jokes that theyve already seen a season or two ago.

The way the series comes back to things that have already happened is a great way to keep the manga jokes going without overpowering the series with them.

What Animation Studio Is Responsible For The Anime Pierrot Co Is The Studio Behind The Anime

A lot of the time a good story is enough to help an anime find popularity, but aesthetics have become increasingly important and the studio behind an anime series is a very crucial factor. Black Clover is in good hands with Pierrot Co. in charge of production.

Pierrot have nearly been in the animation game for fifty years and they’ve been responsible for some of the biggest shonen anime series like Naruto, Bleach, and Yu Yu Hakusho. Black Clover is in good company with them and they’ve helped give the anime an appropriate look and style.

The Pace Was Considered Slow But The Wait Is Worth It

It’s true that Black Clover takes some time to get to the point, but it’s worth sticking it out.

Although the Elf Reincartion arc is widely considered as one of the best parts of the entire story, the build-up to this point is vastly underestimated, and both the Royal Captain arc and the Eye of the Midnight Sun arc do a great job of setting the scene for what’s to come.

How Many Episodes Are There There Are Over 160 Episodes

Part of the joys with anime is that there can be so much content to consume, but this detail can also be intimidating in its own way. Series like One Piece or Detective Conan that have nearly 1000 episodes may seem beyond daunting to get into for a newcomer.

Black Clovers anime has been running for over three years, so it has a lot of material, but its at a point that still feels manageable. Black Clover has produced over 160 episodes over four seasons and theres still a lot more on the way.

The Seven Deadly Sins Turns To A Group Of Magical Underdogs Much Like Black Clover

Black Clover T.V. Media Review Episode 9

The Seven Deadly Sins is a fantasy series that exists in a world that feels so comparable to Black Clover‘suniverse that at times it seems as if Asta might even show up. The anime features magic and powerful holy knights, but the premise centers around a disgraced group of warriors that a desperate princess reaches out towards in an effort to reclaim her stolen kingdom.

The rough around the edges, underdog quality in The Seven Deadly Sins matches with Black Clover‘saesthetic and the magic and missions are also on the same level.

Reasons Black Clover Is Worth Watching

The series might be compared with other shonen shows because of its premise but fans do not agree…

Illustrated and written by Yuki Tabata, Black Clover or Burakku Kuroba is a Japanese manga series that had an original video animation. The focus of the series is Asta, a boy that was born without powers. This shouldn’t be an issue but he is living in a world where everyone has magic powers. Despite being powerless, Asta wants to be the next Wizard King.

Fans of the series can easily watch it on Crunchyroll with English subtitles while Funimation released an English dubbed version. The series might be compared with other shonen anime because of its premise but fans do not agree with that. In fact, here are 3 reasons anime fans should consider watching Black Clover:

Animation And Art Quality

For us, one of the most important aspects of a good shonen manga or anime is having a distinct visual style. Think about Dragon Balls character and world design, or all the iconic ninja technology and lore from Naruto.

In this respect, Black Clover gets full marks. Tabata really has his own distinct style, and Black Clovers characters wont be mistaken for ones from any other series. They arent as way-out as One Piece or Dragon Ball, mind you. We really enjoy the variety of shapes, sizes, and styles the various wizards come in. The characters are interesting and avoid being too stereotypical.

The animation itself is impressive for a shonen series made on a TV budget. We havent spotted any of the embarrassing animation mistakes that pop up in shows like Naruto from time to time. Of course, its not entirely fair to compare to older shonen programs which were made without modern tools. The bottom line is that Black Clover is perfectly pleasant to look at and offers some impressive battle animation in particular.
