To recover their bodies, the brothers become State Alchemists and set off on a journey to unlock the secrets of the mysterious Philosopher’s Stone.
The series has impeccable pacing, emotional impact, and character development. Your Lie In April Is About A Piano Prodigy Who Loses Their Skill
Your Lie In April doesn’t feature Pokémon, magical girls, or teenagers that kill by writing names in a book. Nevertheless, it’s better than the anime that includes those things because it tugs at the heartstrings just a bit more.
This anime is about a young, talented piano prodigy who, after the death of his mother, loses his ability and motivation to play. It takes the actions of a young violinist to brighten his life and return him to music through duets. Yet, as the title suggests, things are not as happy as that description makes them.

Code Geass: Lelouch Vi Britannia
You might get Lelouch vi Britannia if you have ever hit into Game of Thrones, Littlefinger, and The Crow’s Eric Draven: an unforgettably great governmental manipulator with mind-control skills on a journey of revenge against his family, which controls the globe. Code Geass has Sci-Fi fighting, disloyal bureaucrats, teenage humor, and a future in which colonialism and class structures hold the populous in check. This Sci-Fi thriller drama has 54 episodes, and you will enjoy this anime if you can connect with a comic character and are intelligent enough to understand the story arc, which might be hard at times.
Death Note Is A Brilliantly Crafted Morality Story
Based on Tsugumi Ohba’s popular psychological thriller manga, Death Note follows Light Yagami, a genius high schooler who inherits a mysterious notebook that lets him kill anyone whose name he writes in the book. With the Death Note, Light begins to kill off all of the world’s criminals, but in doing so, comes under the scrutiny of the various police agencies and the brilliant detective, L.
Death Note is a classic anime that should be on every thriller fan’s list of must-watch series. The series poses profound questions about morality, justice, and the meaning of good and evil. It features one of the most unique stories to be found in any anime, and the game of cat-and-mouse played by notable characters Light and L is satisfying to watch from beginning to end.

Fullmetal Alchemist / Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Whether you should watch Brotherhood before working through the original Full Metal Alchemist is a different question entirely, but one way or another, FMA: Brotherhood is worth your time.
Brotherhood is an adaptation that more closely follows the plot of the source material. The original FMA anime deviates from the manga about halfway through, after Hiromu Arakawa requested a different ending for the anime. As a result, Id recommend just watching Brotherhood especially given that the two series tend to cover the same ground in the early episodes.
Differences aside, FMA is well worth a watch regardless. The series covers the journey of alchemist brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric as they search for the Philosphers Stone, in a quest to revive the latters body following a failed transmutation. Its equal parts funny, grim and surprising, as the Elric brothers come to grips with the machinations of the state military and a divided world.
The original FMA is streaming on Australian Netflix now, while FMA: Brotherhood is only available through Netflix in the US.
Whether You’re Into Dubbed Or Subbed These Are The Anime Series You Need To Watch
Netflix is finally serious about anime. The streaming service’s licensing strategy had been unreliable in the past few years, with massively popular titles like Attack on Titan and One-Punch Man being available for everyone, yet many other interesting series being added and removed at the drop of a hat. Thankfully were now experiencing exciting changes, and now feels like the right time to point out some excellent anime you can go watch on the Netflix right now.

The End Of Evangelion
Neon Genesis Evangelions descent into Jungian allegory also meant that its finale ended up wildly different from what Anno originally had intended. Reasons given differ wildly, but luckily Annos ideal ending exists in the form of a movie. While episodes 25 and 26 still apply as the ending of Evangelion, they effectively take place within the movie End Of Evangelion, a look at what happens to all the characters we knew and loved before and after the shows last episodes. That makes it sound like its cathartic, satisfying or comforting in any way reader, it’s not. Some of the things TheEnd Of Evangelion puts you through should be illegal. The images that come when the songs iconic song, Komm Susser Tod, starts playing will haunt you for the rest of your lie.
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Not as cerebral or surreal as the other shows on this list, FMA is a very closed-ended fantasy series that has won over generations of fans.
A little explanation: Full Metal Alchemist runs in the middle, which dramatically changes the story of the original material in the series, while Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a tighter adaptation of the original books.
Most FMA sidekicks consider the latter to be far superior, but both are excellent.
Narrating the story of Edward and Alphonse Elric, brothers who survived a traumatic magical accident and now hope to correct their past mistakes, the show explores themes of filial piety and the aftermath of world war.

But they actually have something else in common they both are terrible nerds, to the point its made it impossible for them to enter a lasting relationship, because their partners just wouldnt understand. Once Narumi and Hirotaka discovers this about each other, they decide to date on the spot. After all, it sounds quite efficient to have someone who will play MMOs with you, who will make sure you wont miss limited edition merchandise and who you can discuss your favourite anime with. But is that all it takes to date?
WotaKoi is such fun because it exemplifies something we all want someone to share our likes and interests with, or who at least understands them. Hirotaka and Narumi enter what at first seems like a relationship of convenience, but thats because they actually dont know how to date and because their time-consuming hobbies get in the way. Its also nice to see a show affirm the joy of having a hobby even as an adult, even though WotaKoi makes its protagonists seem a little too into things.

Lovers of seinen anime will not want to miss , an adaptation of Chica Umino’s award-winning manga series. The plot follows the life of Rei Kiriyama, an introverted young professional shogi player, as he learns to become a better player and improve his relationships with other people.
While some fans have complained about the art style, most reviews of the series have been glowing. Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure
This action series is unique. Follow the life and struggles of Joestars lineage as each descendant faces the forces of evil.
From 1880 with Jonathan Joestar, each season takes you on a psychic journey or a bizarre adventure, if you will.
While it begins to follow the reasonably common hierarchy of magical power that you would expect to see in a series like this, the surprising twists make it a wonderfully refreshing watch.

Little Witch Academia Focuses On A Girl With Few Magical Powers
Little Witch Academia is another example of a series where an underdog trains hard to become someone. Combining the magic of Harry Potter with the heroics of My Hero Academia, the anime follows Akko, a girl with very little magical aptitude who wants nothing more than to be a witch. Hence, she decides to attend Luna Nova Magical Academy to enhance her skills.
The series is a production of Studio Trigger, which is why it is so wonderfully animated. The classic anime themes of never giving up and showing your criticizers what you’re made of are present as well. However, they’re written in new and interesting ways as Akko challenges the old conventions of magic as she learns and grows.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
First aired: 2007 | Episodes: 27Where to watch: Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll
No show better exemplifies the Japanese theme of fighting spirit better than Gainax’s exuberant, over-the-top mecha masterpiece Gurren Lagann. This is the same animation studio that made Evangelion in the ’90s, but the two couldn’t be more different in how they use giant robots. Gurren Lagann begins with humanity cowering in underground societies, scared of the surface above. It ends with giant robots in space throwing literal solar systems at one another.
Every step of the way it’s a story about the power of the human spirit, having the strength to never give up, and using that will plus a giant fucking drill to pierce the heavens. The rare show that can make your heart soar with excitement and make you cry within the same episode. Every time you think it can’t get more dramatic, more emotional, more over-the-top, it will exceed your expectations. The absolute pinnacle of unrestrained anime action.

The Adventures Of Tintin
Yes, I can fully appreciate that including the Tintin animated series in a list about anime might be off a step too far for some. Still, if youre looking for series to rewatch, a lot of the Tintin series still hold up today.
Some of the books dont stack up that well the blackface elements in The Blue Lotus are a bit on the nose these days but Netflix still has the first season, which includes The Calculus Affair two-parter, the excellent Cigars of the Pharoah, and the three-part Secret of the Unicorn/Red Rackhams Treasure which formed most of the basis for the CGI Tintin movie.
Netflix doesnt have the excellent second season or third seasons unfortunately, so theres no Destination Moon/Explorers on the Moon saga or Tintin in Tibet. But season one does give you a look at Dr. Muller, one of Tintins recurring villains, and The Crab with the Golden Claws remains an all-time classic.

Violet Evergarden Is Beautifully Animated And Written
Based on Kana Akatuki’s award-winning light novel series, Violet Evergarden introduces audiences to Auto Memory Dolls, humans and machines that write for others. The story follows Violet Evergarden, a Doll and former soldier, as she attempts to reintegrate back into society after a war and find her purpose in life.
Violet Evergarden features beautiful art and animation, a compelling story, and well-developed characters. The series avoids devolving into over-sentimentality and remains well-paced throughout. At its core, it’s about figuring out one’s purpose in life and how to relate to others, but the world-building and characterization work together to extract every ounce of meaning from the material.
The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K
Given that its about a pink-haired teenage boy with psychic powers, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K gets a lot of mileage out of the purely mundane aspects of his life: going to school, or interacting with his parents, or even, uh, watching anime. Like any moody kid, all the eponymous Saiki wants is to be left alone and mind his own business, but the need to keep his secret from most of the people around him gets in his way. His deadpan delivery and ever-present internal monologue drive the show, and each episode delivers a new, deliciously meta comedy of errors.Watch it if you love:Sabrina the Teenage Witch the character Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation
