How The Bleach Anime Took The World By Storm

Like many other iconic anime series, Bleach comes from a manga. The manga came out in 2001 and slowly rose in fans hearts as one of the best manga of the industry. Bleach was one of those rare mangas that experienced popularity in the West, before its anime. Most mangas see an increase in sales after the anime adaptation. Through syndication, international audiences grew to love the show, but the world already knew about the books.

In 2004 the series became an anime. The anime style and action choreography of the show made it stand out and stand the test of time. The original manga ended its story-run in 2016. And the anime adapted most of the books storylines and ended in 2012 with 366 episodes to its name. There has been other Bleach content, like movies, musicals and video games. But the anime series remains the most beloved. Yet, the anime was unable to complete the last story arc from the book. So the anime left many fans unsatisfied and without any sense of the story resolving. Now, 8 years later, the Bleach anime series returns to complete that unfinished business.

Soul Society: The Sneak Entry Arc

This story arc is twenty-one episodes long and covers chapters 71 through 117. It aired in Japan between March 2005 and July 2005. Subtitled the “The Entry” in the US, it aired from February 2007 to July 2007.

Ichigo, Chad, Orihime, Ury, and Yoruichi arrive in Soul Society, but are stopped from entering the gate of the Shinigami citadel Seireitei by Shinigami captain Gin Ichimaru, and must seek another entrance. Yoruichi takes the group to the home of her old friend Kkaku Shiba, who owns a giant cannon usually used for fireworks, but is capable of launching other objects else where. Kkaku agrees to fire them into Seireitei, and sends an assistant with their group, her brother Ganju Shiba, who has hated the Shinigami organization ever since his Shinigami elder brother Kaien Shiba was killed by another Shinigami during a mission. The cannon is a partial success and the party lands in Seireitei, albeit with its members split up.

Ichigo and Ganju are met by Kenpachi Zaraki, a bloodthirsty captain with the reputation of being unbeatable, as they are approaching Rukia’s prison. Ichigo sends Ganju on to break Rukia out of jail, while he duels Kenpachi alone. Kenpachi and Ichigo fight until they are both nearly dead, both ultimately admitting defeat and collapsing. After the fight, Ichigo is healed by Yoruichi who then reveals that she is not a cat but a woman, and that she and Urahara are both actually ex-Shinigami.

How Bleach’s Anime Ended

Bleach the Movie The Diamond Dust Rebellion (2007) BluRay ...

Bleach‘s once-final episode was its 366th and concluded the fight between Substitute Shinigami Ichigo and Kugo. A group of full Shinigami had initially planned to kill both Ichigo and Kugo to eradicate the threat of Substitute Shinigami and the negative connotations given to the role by Kugo. But, having realized the type of person Ichigo is, they shared their energy with him to help finish the fight.

Their decision is backed up further by Ichigo’s attempts to actually reach out to and understand the ostracized Kugo instead of judging him like so many others had. Still angered at Ichigo standing in his way, Kugo rushes toward his opponent before being struck down for good. Tsukushima tries to attack Ichigo and encourage the dying Kugo to fight on, becoming increasingly unstable as he’s flooded with memories of his comrade.

Eventually, Ichigo meets with the Gotei 13 captains, shocking them by requesting to bury Kugo’s body in the human world. His demand is controversial, but his decision to not retire from the post of Substitute Shinigami as expected is a relief. Ichigo and Rukia say their goodbyes, for now, looking back on their friendship as the credits roll, with Ichigo greeted by several of his other friends and family.

Why Is Bleach So Long

Bleach – Opening 10 | Shojo S

The primary reason why Bleach was so long is that it was a weekly manga, which means that it was meant to last as long as its popular and as long as there were people who wanted to read it.

And since its popularity was only increasing over the years not just in Japan, but globally the authors had a solid amount of time to tell their stories and finish it the way they wanted, and this is the principal reason why Bleach is longer than a large number of other manga and anime series.
