Zeff The Pragmatic Chef
Sanji’s origin story alongside Zeff, as revealed during the “Baratie” arc tugs on many heartstrings and is all about survival in dire situations. Nothing emphasizes this more than in chapter 58 where young Sanji, in the flashback, comes to learn how Zeff’s right leg went missing.
It turns out the old man ate his own leg! In the anime, this scene never happened. Instead, Zeff’s left was caught on some ship debris and was severed.

Easier To Understand Than Manga
There is nothing wrong with the paneling of One Piece chapters. Oda and his team put a great deal of effort into every chapter and ensure that it is enjoyable for the readers. However, a lot of times the readers miss out on things while reading or they are unable to understand a certain concept.
One Piece is very long and there are a lot of things to remember for the readers. The anime is very helpful especially when it comes to clearing up confusion pertaining to a specific topic. It expands on subjects such as Ryou, devil fruit abilities and different specifies of living beings. The anime also uses certain effects to help the viewer understand when a character is using Kenbunshoku Haki.
Anime: The Movies Are Great Starting Points
This might be a bit of a technicality as this entry is not referring to the;One Piece;anime TV series, but rather the anime films. However, they have proven, especially among established fans, to be of great enjoyment. While they are, unfortunately, non-canon to the main story that is told in the manga and the majority of the TV anime series, they are particularly good for people who want to get into the series.
The anime films do a great job of introducing the cast and giving newcomers a feel for what the tone of the overall franchise is.
Luffy Stabs Himself In The Face
Monkey D. Luffy is not the smartest pirate around, but fans still love him for that.
A particularly shining example of Luffy trying to prove a point in the dumbest way imaginable happens in the very first chapter of One Piece, during the introductory “Romance Dawn” arc. Luffy wants to show that he is brave enough to be a pirate, so naturally, he opts to grab a knife and carve into his own face, giving himself his distinctive crescent scar below his left eye. The anime does not show this at all.
The Slow Pace Of One Piece
The current arc of One Piece, the Wano Arc, is airing in Japan, with each episode covering fractions of manga chapters. Episode 897, for example, covered 10 pages of One Piece manga chapter 912. The next episode covered a staggering nine pages of Chapter 913, while the rest was adapted in the following episode. That equates to two episode of anime adapting 17 pages of manga. The most recent episode, 923, covers fragments of multiple, separate chapters, stitching them together into a bizarre Frankenstein monster that lacks a satisfactory conclusion.
However, this wasn’t always the case for One Piece.;;The first episode of One Piece adapted the second chapter of the manga, while the second episode adapted pieces of three different chapters. The early episodes moved at a speedy pace, only to slow down as time went on.
While any decade-spanning franchise will change its creative direction over the years, the drastic decline of One Piece‘s pace seems to be a fairly recent occurrence. Roughly 10 years ago, the average One Piece episode adapteda singlechapter of manga. Now, it’s more like half a chapter. While One Piece‘s manga is very fast paced and energetic, the anime has grown increasingly slow, sluggish and uneventful.

The Story Of One Piece
In each volume after the first, the title page is followed by several pages collectively titled The Story of One Piece. These contain an overview of the series premise, a synopsis of the current storyline, and short profiles of all significant characters and groups. Depending on the story’s complexity, they may also include features such as maps.
One Piece: 5 Things The Manga Does Better Than The Anime
One Piece might’ve started out as a manga, but there are certain things the anime does better – and vice-versa.
Among the undisputed titans of the anime and manga industry,;if you ask the majority of fans of these mediums, will likely tell you that;One Piece;reigns among the best, most popular, and most important to the overall industry. Even while, at least among the fan base, the anime is generally regarded as the weaker way to experience the series, it still is a solid anime adaptation. Meanwhile, the manga is hailed as some of the best series even among the likes of;Berserk;and;Vagabond.;
Whichever way someone chooses to dive into this series, chances are high that they will find their next high-quality fix. Having said that, there are still discussions as to which is the optimal way to consume this series. As mentioned, there is a general consensus on which is better, but here let’s go over five things the manga does better and five the anime does better.

Is It Worth Starting One Piece 20 Years Late
Ill be honest with you, it depends. Do you like fun, adventure, and the vicarious thrill of watching really bad guys get punched in the face? Then absolutely, get started today. How about loveable characters who are a little bit broken inside pursuing their dreams and standing together against oppressive rulers? Youll adore the Straw Hat crew and their family-like bond as they defy the World Government. Do you exclusively read the romance genre? Stick to shoujo unless youre willing to do a lot of extra-curricular reading via fanfiction and doujinshi. How do you feel about heavily stylized character design? If you need realism, One Piece is probably not the show for you.
I could go on, but it really comes down to this: One Piece is an adventure. Either you want to join the Straw Hat Pirates on their journey or you dont. Some people just dont and thats okay. For everyone else, theres Mastercard this guide.
Anime: The Most Emotionally Impactful Moments Are Brought To Life
A particularly important strength of the anime for;One Piece;is the–admittedly obvious–fact that thanks to the power of animation, the most emotionally resonant moments are brought to life. Of course, this means that only as far as the anime has picked up from the manga’s story.
Regardless, with the anime spanning, as of now, over 900 episodes there are a solid amount of the biggest moments the manga has introduced animated, voiced, and colored for fans to enjoy. Even fans who largely stuck with the manga could find themselves watching the anime to see how their favorite scenes were adapted.

The Old Era Of Filler
Anime of long-running shonen series always want to avoid catching up to the manga. Once that happens, anime studios run out of material to adapt, and thus need to spin their wheels until more manga chapters are released. When this used to happen in the old days, filler arcs would give the manga extra time.
Filler isn’t very popular. While Dragon Ball Z‘s filler arcs are infamously unpopular , even more egregious cases come;from; One Piece‘s direct competition: Naruto and Bleach. Although the manga running in Weekly Shonen Jump alongside One Piece received consistent praise from fans, audiences were less forgiving of the anime adaptations. Bleach inserted;40 episodes of filler following the reveal of Aizen as the series’ primary antagonist. This meant the anime left audiences waiting for 40 episodes to see the implications of that arc-ending twist, something manga fans waited a week for.;Naruto, however, had it worse. Following the Sasuke Retrieval Arc — which forever altered the trajectory of the entire franchise — the original anime had over;100 episodes of filler.

One Piece: The Anime Has A Serious Pacing Problem
One Piece’s anime is moving along at a snail’s pace. Here’s how to fix the anime’s sluggish pace so it feels more like the manga.
Shonen anime, especially older anime,;is notorious for its slow pace and long battles.;A common occurrence in the early days of the Dragon Ball Z;was a casual fan jumping back in after taking a few months off, only to exclaim, “Wait, are we still on Namek?” However, when anime fans would jump into the manga,;they were surprised to find the manga striding along at a much faster pace.
Nowadays, most shonen anime, from My Hero Academia to Demon Slayer to Attack on Titan, moves at a speedy pace. One modern shonen anime that isn’t getting speedy, however, is One Piece. If anything, it seems to be slowing down. Here’s why that’s the case and what Toei Animation can do to change it.
