When They Cry: Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Mei

That Anime Show: Higurashi: When They Cry: Sotsu Episode 15 (Finale)

A smartphone game with gacha elements, released in Fall 2020 to tie in with the release of Gou. Set ten years after the Great Hinamizawa Disaster, three girls investigate what really happened and find themselves sent back in time a few days before the tragedy.

  • When They Cry 4: Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru . A direct continuation of the above, this delves deeper into the mysteries surrounding the family, where rather than outright answers, only subtle hints are given at first.
  • End of the golden witch. The “Natsuhi Arc.” The game continues with somewhat new players, and the scope of the game changes when someone shipwrecks on the island before the murders. Natsuhi’s past is explained and she is a featured character in the game’s plotline.
  • Dawn of the golden witch. The “Shannon and Kanon Arc.” A new game master takes up the helm and gives us a tale with some unexpected twists, focusing on the two cousin-servant couples and hinting at many of the game’s biggest mysteries, complete with a return to 1998.
  • Requiem of the golden witch. The “Lion and Yasu Arc.” Yet another new game master presents her personal perception of the “truth” of the game. The story is split between an alternate, “perfect” world where the tragedy does not happen and the game master’s culprit theory proper. Features two new perspective characters, Willard H. Wright and Lion Ushiromiya.
  • Nocturne of the Truth and Illusions. Gives the Chiru arcs the same PS3 treatment that Rondo gave the first four arcs.

    Shiki

The fifteen-year-old Megumi Shimizu dreamed of leaving her small country town behind for the big city, but those dreams died when she did. It was her murder that kicked off a summer of blood and terror in this small town where a city boy and a country doctor try to stop the epidemic of death happening around them.

Both Shiki and Higurashi are set in small villages that maintain a rather light-hearted atmosphere until the majority of the plot is kicked off by a murder that turns into some increasingly more disturbing deathes. However, while Higurashi is often more disturbing than Shiki, it also has more slapstick comedic moments too.

    Another

Ever since 1972, class 3-3 in Yomiyama North middle School has had a strange tradition of pretending that one of their students did not exist. When Kouichi Sakakubara transfers into the class, he finds himself drawn to a girl that no one seems to notice. Not paying heed to the warnings of his classmates, all hell is about to break loose.

Like Higurashi, Another takes place in another small village where the mystery starts off slow almost to the point of why the hell am I watching this? but by of the first murder it grabs hold and doesnt let go. However, Higurashi has more humor and less of the persistent Gothic theme that Another has.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Special: Nekogoroshi

This OVA starts off light enough, sharing some fanservice as all of the members of the Games Club parade around Hinamizawa in costumes. While they wander around, they come across an abandoned section of the village. This mystery is perfect to watch after the first season, considering it offers hints towards one of the first season’s mysteries.

Studio Deen Is Not Working On Gou But Did Work On The Original Anime Adaptation

Umineko When They Cry’s anime deserves a remake, according to many fans. Fans weren’t pleased with how Studio Deen’s handled the source material in their adaptation and argue there are many ways Umineko’s anime is nothing like the visual novel. On that note, when fans learned that Studio Passione was tackling the Higurashi Gou anime, many became interested to see how they’d handle the franchise.

Many differences regarding Higurashi Gou’s animation, art quality, and soundtrack were noteworthy for fans as they watched every new Higurashi Gou’s latest episode. Although fans may prefer this fresh take on Higurashi’s cast, Studio Deen’s adaptation of the series will continue to rest freshly in their minds.

    When They CryGeneon

Higurashi When They Cry is a Japanese anime television series based on Ryukishi07‘s visual novel series. The English titles for the first season are accorded to the titles used by Funimation. English titles in the other seasons are not official.

The second season is titled When They Cry: Kai . It was produced by the same team and contains 24 episodes. The series aired in Japan between July 6 and December 17, 2007 on several television networks, such as Sun TV, TV Kanagawa and TV Saitama. The story continues what is left unexplained in the first season over the course of three separate story arcs. The first story is an anime-original arc called Yakusamashi-hen, which is followed by the last two arcs from the original visual novel series: Minagoroshi-hen and Matsuribayashi-hen. On September 18, 2007, a sixteen-year-old girl killed her father with an axe in Kyoto, Japan. The similarities between Kai and the incident were too strong. In response, Tokai TV replaced episode twelve on September 21, 2007 with a cooking show.

    Grave Of The Fireflies

Sometimes, the older films of the past generation offer even more of a worthwhile plot than modern classics. At least, the Studio Ghibli film, Grave of the Fireflies, certainly does. Released all the way back in 1988, the story follows the wartime stories of Seita and his sister Setsuko.

The civilian side of 1945 Japan often goes unnoticed in modern history, so this film offers a very telling retelling Although there are some very dark tones , the plot and well-developed characters make for an unforgettable experience.

Can Some Of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Gou Episodes Replace The Original

As you can read above, the first 17 episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Gou are essentially an abridged version of more-so the first season, but essentially all the previous events. While the animation is nicer, Gou should never replace the original series in any sort of way. You get the gist of the events, but you dont get to see the details. You can use it if you want to skip the super gore-y bits, I guess, but who is watching Higurashi to not watch things like girls stabbing themselves in the neck, right?

Higurashi wraps up the story within two seasons, i.e., Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. The other 7 installations are side stories that further expand the universe of the series. This means that there are no fillers in Higurashi: When They Cry, but many installations can be skipped since each one is a stand-alone story or arc.

A huge wave of news hit the anime community earlier in the year when it became apparent that fans had been tricked by Ryukishi07. What was thought to be a remake of the older horror animeHigurashiwas revealed to actually be a continuation of the original series. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Gou seemed to perfectly follow the plot of the first season, but by the second episode, some major hints were popping up that things weren’t quite right.

The Events Remade In Gou Were Not Identical To The Original Series

When it comes to character pairings in the anime community, many will take a side that may not sit well with other fanbase members. Whether fans wanted Keiichi to end up with Rena or Mion is still up in the air yet the remade arcs adaption in Higurashi Gou may indicate a victory for a specific pairing.

Higurashi Gou made subtle changes that left some fans in awe. Some of these changes included Rena viciously attacking Keiichi in his home, Mion revealing her love for Keiichi before leaving him in the underground prison, and many others. Although some may not agree that Higurashi Gou’s a remake, it did include new takes on familiar scenes fans didn’t see coming.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai

Higurashi‘s second season fully unravels the first season’s mysteries. While certain characters have been shown to kill others through the various timelines, there is a connecting thread that brings all of these individual pieces together. Through this season, the truth behind the current incident and cases from years prior are uncovered. On top of that, this season introduces a key element to the nature of why the series repeats different scenarios of the same time period.

Satoshi Hojo Got More Screentime In The Original Series Compared To Gou

Now that Higurashi Gou’s concluded, there will be many changes fans will notice between Gou and the original series. One of these involves Satoshi’s involvement with Higurashi Gou feeling empty when compared to his presence in the original series. In the original, fans witnessed Satoshi beating up his abusive aunt and undergoing immense stress regarding taking care of his and his sister’s mental issues.

His inclusion in the original series helped fans understand why Shion disliked Satoko and was oddly close with the Hojo family. Higurashi Gou lessens Satoshi’s presence to a large degree, where his most notable scene is when Satoko visits him mysteriously in Hinamizawa hospital’s basement level.

For Fans Of Romance With A Gory Twist

    School Days

It had to have been fate. Makoto Itou caught the eye of Kotonoha Katsura on the train and it was love at first sight. However, their shared bashfulness prevents one from approaching the other. Only with the push of his friend Sekai does he start going out with Kotonoha. Unfortunately, once a person has a taste of affection, it can be hard to quench it.

Did you like the vague romance subplots in Higurashi: When They Cry and would like to see more romance in a horror setting? School Days is the perfect series for you. For the most part, it is less terror and more school-set slice of life. That is, right up until they end.

    Future Diary

Lonely high school student Yukiteru Amano spends his days writing the events that happen around him in his diary rather than participating in them. Considering himself an observer, he only has two friends, both imaginary gods. However, when the god Deus Ex Machina gives him a diary that tells the future, he proves more than imaginary by thrusting him into a survival game with his godhood as the prize.

Did you like Higurashi because those cute little girls occasionally took a step off the deep end and went murderously insane? Well, that pretty much describes the female lead in Future Diary.

    Chaos Head

Chaos Head is essentially the first arc of Higursashi where you watch the main character get stalked by a small harem of cute, creepy girls that may or may not want to hurt him and eventually spiral into violent paranoia.

    • Original Arcs:
    • Saikoroshi-hen : The epilogue. Rika falls into a coma and wakes up in a Wonderful Life scenario, only instead of wishing herself out, she’s wished out the Dysfunction Junction of the cast. What didn’t kill them, though, once removed, appears to have made them horrible, miserable, selfish people.
    • Batsukoishi-hen : A gag story set in the after-school club. This was once included as part of Kai, but was considered too lighthearted and silly. In the anime, this arc is replaced with Hajisarashi-hen.
