Here’s Where You Can Watch Every Godzilla Movie

Godzilla: Monster Planet Final Trailer (2018) Godzilla Anime Movie

Off the top of your head, can you say how many Godzilla movies there are? No, guess higher. Higher! No, even more! There are either 36 or 38 films starring the big green monster from the deep, depending on how you count the recut American versions of the original 1954 Godzilla and 1984’s The Return of Godzilla. Indeed, that’s a lot of latex.

The kaiju franchise created and controlled by Japanese studio Toho has been part of Japanese, American, and world culture for almost 70 years, and it has built up a huge body of media, from the aforementioned first film to the new Godzilla vs. Kong, which is itself the second time the two iconic monsters have duked it out.

As you probably know, Godzilla vs. Kong is streaming for a month on HBO Max in addition to being released in theaters. But it’s far from the only Godzilla film available to stream. Most – but not all – movies featuring the King of the Monsters are available to stream somewhere, either on a subscription service or for individual purchase. We rounded up where you can find them all, so check them out below.

‘attack On Titan’ Debuts New Opening Song Ending For Season 4 Part 2

Netflixs Godzilla: Singular Point may be the strangest take on the iconic kaiju story yet. Engineer Yun Arikawa in Nigashio City, Chiba Prefecture works at the do it all shop Otaki Factory. He and coworker Haberu Kato as well as graduate student Mei Kamino cross paths while investigating what ends up being a similar, bizarre song in two different places. They converge as they investigate the broadcast, which they believe could be connected to alien activity. What they find is something even stranger: a monster named Rodan and the bones of something even bigger.

Netflix Reveals First Look Of Godzilla: Singular Point English Dub

As part of the Netflix Geeked Week, we got the first look of the Godzilla: Singular Point English dub coming to Netflix later this month.

The clip, which you can see below, shows what this particular version of Jet Jaguar, a mech built by members of the Otaki Factory, looks like. It cuts to one of the animes main protagonists, Yun Arikawa, as he works on the mech and a couple of kids bust his chops about how bad its name is. The kids then see something in the sky, which turns out to be one of of the most well-known kaiju, Rodan. The flying monster then begins making a mess of the town. It seems to uniquely blend both classic and 3D animation.

Godzilla: Singular Point is an anime produced by Toho Company Ltd., Bones, and Orange. It premiered on Netflix Japan in March 2021, and was televised in April 2021. The shows international release is scheduled for June 24, 2021. There are a total of 13 episodes in the first season, each running around 23 minutes.

News’godzilla Vs Hedorah’ Short To Stream On November 3

posted on

began streaming a video on Wednesday, and it reveals that the new short “Godzilla vs. Hedorah” will debut on November 3 on the official YouTube channel starting at around 6:15 p.m. JST as part of the online Godzilla Fes 2021 event.

“Godzilla vs. Hedorah” is the second installment in the “Gojira Gojira Fes ni Arawaru” tokusatsu series. The first installment debuted at Godzilla Fes 2020 last November. Kazuhiro Nakagawa, who directed the first installment, is also directing this short. Painter Akiko Nakayama is in charge of the short’s opening and ending videos.

The short commemorates the 50th anniversary of the original Godzilla vs. Hedorah film, which opened in 1971.

The Godzilla vs. Kong film has earned over US$100 million in the United States, where it opened on March 31. The movie earned US$48.5 million in its first five days in the U.S. The film opened internationally on March 26 in territories where the streaming service is not available. The film opened in Japan on July 2, delayed from its original May 14 opening. The film earned 464 million yen and topped the Japanese box office in its opening weekend.

A First Step In The Wrong Direction

Starting off with the first movie, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters or also know as Godzilla: Monster Planet, is a mixed bag for me. A part of me finds it boring, uninteresting, and wasted potential for some really great ideas. The other half appreciates the creators attempts to make something new with the beloved franchise. The animation is inconsistent in quality. Most of the time its astonishing how great it is, while at other times the colors are dull.

The story introduced in this first movie sets up a lot of great concepts. Humans have abandoned Earth due to Godzillas destructive and unstoppable presence. Years later, the humans return with alien allies with the goal of killing Godzilla. Thus, the movie has a unique post apocalyptic feel that no other Godzilla movies have had.

I will admit that I found myself geeking out over the final moments of the movie when Godzilla Earth rose from the ground for the first time. This version of the character is the largest in scale, reaching 603 feet tall, which is pretty damn cool. Godzilla Earths appearance for the final battle is really what saved this movie for me. A slow burn is only good if it has a major payoff and Godzilla Earth made this 79 minutes worth it. Where the movie lacked with story, it was balanced with the menacing presence and horror of how dangerous Godzilla really is.

Scissor Seven Season 3

  • Japanese Title: Wu Liuqi Zhi Xuanwu Guo Pian
  • Where To Stream: Netflix

Scissors Seven has been quietly doing its thing for a few years now, and the Chinese show just keeps on getting better with each new cour. While not quite as random as its predecessors, Scissors Seven‘s season 3 retains the comedic irreverence that has made the show such a joy to watch.

As always, the art is deceptively simple but splendidly animated, and the action scenes are generally brilliant. Scissors Seven is a wild ride from beginning to end, and season 3 takes things up a few notches.

With the movie is hitting HBO Max, theres a lot of Godzilla flicks to catch-up on, right?

Much has happened with Godzilla over the course of six decades, with the radioactive Japanese kaiju keeping especially busy. Godzilla vs. Kong will be the 33rd Godzilla produced after his last meeting with the massive ape from Skull Island. Thats a lot of Godzilla movies to keep straight? So, how many Godzilla movies are there? In what order should you watch Godzilla movies? Where can you watch the first Godzilla movie? Are all the Godzilla movies on HBO Max?

Heres everything you need to know. And then some.

The new movie, produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros., is a bit different than a majority of Godzilla films. Most of those movies have been made by Toho Studios, the Japanese studio that has pioneered the genre, but this new release is actually a part of Legendarys MonsterVerse series. The three prior MonsterVerse movies Godzilla , Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of Monsters have all been building up to this one, so youll absolutely want to watch those flicks to make sure youre adequately prepped for this giant new chapter.

Godzilla: The Criterion Collection

The Criterion Channel and HBO Max share a great collection of early Godzilla films. The streaming services have 15 films from what’s known as the “Shwa era” of the franchise, which includes films released between 1954 and 1975. Their Criterion Channel versions also include great special features like commentary tracks and video essays that are not available on the HBO Max versions.

The Godzilla films available on the Criterion Channel and HBO Max are:

-The original Japanese Godzilla from 1954.

Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, the Americanized 1956 version of the original that inserts Raymond Burr.

-1955’s Godzilla Raids Again, where Godzilla fights spiny dinosaur Anguirus.

-1964’s Mothra vs. Godzilla, in which he faces off against the giant moth that’s Toho’s other famous kaiju creation.

-1967’s Son of Godzilla, which introduces Minilla get it?

-1968’s Destroy All Monsters, which features all 11 of Toho’s monsters.

-1969’s All Monsters Attack, where Minilla bonds with a human boy who also has an often-absent father.

-1971’s Godzilla vs. Hedorah, an eco-conscious entry where the enemy is pollution.

-1972’s Godzilla vs. Gigan, wherein Godzilla battles the titular buzzsaw-bellied cyborg monster.

-1973’s Godzilla vs. Megalon, where Godzilla is aided by the giant robot Jet Jaguar.

-1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, where he fights a robot version of himself.

-And 1975’s Terror of Mechagodzilla, the last Godzilla film directed by original helmsman Ishiro Honda.

Godzilla Tv Series Is In Development At Apple Tv+

Godzilla is the King of the Monsters, and now, he shall soon take over Apple TV subscribers. A new report has gone live today confirming the MonsterVerse’s big move to television. Deadline has confirmed a live-action TV series is in the works for Godzilla, and it will help expand Godzilla’s domain in a unique new way.

According to Deadline, this landmark deal will bring Legendary’s pre-existing franchise to Apple TV+. The untitled series will follow one family’s journey through a world where titans exist, and they’ll come to discover their secret ties to Monarch along the way. At this point, there is no word on whether existing characters in the Godzilla films will carry into the show, but we know for sure the King of the Monsters will show up.

Legendary Television is producing the untitled TV series with Chris Black as executive producer. Matt Fraction will serve as showrunner along with Black. Toho Company will also have several members on board including Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita.

The report goes on to detail how this TV series was developed as Legendary is riding on the high of Godzilla vs Kong. The movie was one of the first to excite the global box office in a post-COVID world. Apple was said have, “immediate interest” in the pitch as its streaming service wants more established IPs.

Godzilla Movies In Chronological Order Of Events

Watch Godzilla: The Series(1998) Online Free, Godzilla ...

As we mentioned, the continuity of the Godzilla franchise isnt terribly strict. As long as you start with the first film, you can jump around pretty freely without feeling confused . That said, Godzilla fans tend to group the movies into several distinct eras, each with a unique tone and take on the big smashy lizard.

Shwa era

The classic period of Godzilla movies, the Shwa era contains most of the films people think of when they picture our favorite atomic lizard. Weirdly, even though this period begins with the decidedly bleak and somber 1954 original, its best known for the franchises goofier moments, including Godzillas ludicrous son Minilla and pretty much every pro-wrestling-style GIF youve ever seen of the mighty kaiju.

Godzilla

Godzilla Raids Again

Godzilla Raids Again is technically a direct sequel to Godzilla in that it features some returning characters and references the events of the original film. But the movie quickly explains that this Godzilla is a brand-new member of the same species, rather than the same radioactive lizard we saw the year before. This movie also marks the first time Godzilla does battle with another kaiju Anguirus, a bizarre turtle/ankylosaurus type creature who would appear in several more films in the series.

King Kong vs. Godzilla

Mothra vs. Godzilla

Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster

Invasion of Astro-Monster

Ebirah, Horror of the Deep

Son of Godzilla

Destroy All Monsters

All Monsters Attack

Godzilla vs. Hedorah

Heisei era

Whats The Best Order To Watch Godzilla Movies

Obviously, before the new Godzilla vs Kong youll want to watch the three prior MonsterVerse movies Godzilla , Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of Monsters. But Id recommend watching them after getting your education from the Toho flicks. Those movies are informed by the Toho movies, so to get full enjoyment of those , youll need some prior education.

The Japanese Godzilla movies are broken up into three blocks. In chronological order, they are the Showa Era, Heisei Era, and Millennium Era. Every Godzilla movie is a masterpiece, but some are more must-watch than others, especially as it pertains to the new one out in March. To get a taste of their first matchup, you should watch 1963s King Kong vs. Godzilla, which has some pretty epic fights and works as a media satire, too.

That movie kicked off an incredible run that introduced the big guy to a slew of new monster friends and enemies, many of whom play key roles in King of the Monsters. Youll want to watch Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, at the very least. Then you can skip ahead to 1968s battle royal flick Destroy All Monsters, then round out your Showa viewing with 1973s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, which may or may not be very pertinent to the next movie.
